The K
Both officers will remain assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division where they will utilize their respective dogs. Patrolman Keith’s dog is a 3½ year old Belgian Malinois and goes by the name of “Xanto”. Patrolman Purvis’ dog is a 2 year old German Shepherd and goes by the name “Macho”.
Patrolman Keith has been with the Noblesville Police Department since May 28, 2002 and works as a patrol officer assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division. Patrolman Keith is also a certified field training officer and instructor. Prior to coming to the Noblesville Police Department, Patrolman Keith was an officer with the Salem Police Department in southern Indiana.
Patrolman Purvis has been with the Noblesville Police Department since November 7, 2005 and also works as a patrol officer assigned to the Patrol Division. Patrolman Purvis is currently a certified
‐9 Unit. Patrolman Joseph Keith and Patrolman Brad Purvis recently graduated from the Von Liche Kennel and American Working Dog training center located in Denver, Indiana. During the 5‐week certification course, the officers and their K‐9 partners trained side‐by‐side in areas such as legal aspects, area searches, tracking, obedience and narcotic/explosive searching to name a few. ‐9 Units are an essential tool used by the Noblesville Police Department and in the profession of law enforcement as a whole. These Units are a tremendous asset because of the dog’s extraordinary sense of smell and ability to be obedient to its police handler. The K‐9 Unit provides a number of services to our community and can often be found not only working in a law enforcement related capacity but also providing educational classes to groups ranging from school‐aged children to senior citizen groups. Whether locating a large amount of narcotics in a vehicle, tracking and apprehending a suspect, searching for a missing child or locating hidden explosives, these police K‐9 Units will remain an invaluable part in law enforcement’s obligation and mission to keep our communities safe.
